I’m really excited to share this book list. The books that my kids love at this age are just so much fun and make the best read-alouds. Each one of these is a book that I honestly don’t mind reading aloud over and over again and I swear I love them just as much as my kiddos. We hope you spot a few favorites as well as discover some new treasures.
“Mr Postmouse’s Rounds” by Marianne Dubuc- This is possibly my little boy’s favorite book ever. He is currently fascinated with mail and this posthumous and his amazing deliveries to unique homes and recipients has him won over.
This book just ate my dog!” by Richard Byrne- This book is hilarious. It is all about how the book itself is “eating” the characters in the story through the page gutter. It never fails to make my kids giggle.
“Old MacDonald Had a Truck” by Steve Goetz and Eda Kaban- This clever twist on the classic song “Old MacDonald” has Mrs. MacDonald and Old MacDonald using large equipment to make over their truck. My kids love it when I “sing” to this one and they love all the vehicles.
The “Cook in a Book Interactive Recipe Book” series! (Tacos! Pizza! Pancakes!) by Lotta Nieminen- Every one of these books is always in high demand at our home. They are some of the most sought after books and the ones they have a hard time sharing and impatiently wait for their turn. It’s because the interactive features are top notch and they get to do some pretend cooking.
“Bears In the Night” by Stan and Jan Bernstain- This repetitive book is catchy, great for teaching prepositions. My kids love to “read” this one to me because it is simple to memorize and the illustrations are so helpful. Plus, there is a really fun climax that builds.
“Chu’s Day” by Neil Gaiman and Adam Rex- This book is a big favorite in our home. I think my kiddos love it so much because the climax builds and builds to an ending that is so much fun and does not disappoint. Especially when you read it with expression and add a sound effect or two.
“Cool Dog, School Dog” by Deborah Heiligman and Tim Bowers- This book has simple text and simple rhymes, but that is what makes it so fun. It has a lovely rhythm when read aloud and the dog is completely lovable. Such a good one.
“I Know Numbers!” by Taro Gomi- At this age number fascination is common and my kids are no exception. They love pointing out numbers they see everywhere and asking what they mean. This unique twist on a traditional numbers book focuses on all the many places we see numbers and what they mean as opposed to counting.
“Don’t Wake Up the Tiger!” by Britta Teckentrup- This is another book with a lot of fun suspense that builds to a fantastic surprise ending. The illustrations are bright and adorable and the fact that it is interactive makes it all the more fun.
“Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale” by Mo Willems- This book is absolutely hilarious for children and adults alike. IT is about a little girl who gets distraught when she realizes that her beloved lovey has been left at the laundromat. It is a book that kids and adults can relate to and my children love that the text is full of “toddler talk” that is a lot of fun gibberish to read.
“Plant the Tiny Seed” by Christie Matheson- This interactive books invites you to tap, blow and so much more as you help plant some seeds and watch them grow. My kiddos think it is magical and I would have to agree.
