Board books are built sturdy for a reason. They need to be able to take a beating and they need to withstand being read again and again. That’s just how it is, with babies and toddler especially. Which is why it is always a good idea to have a board book classic or two on hand for those repetitive readings that you are bound to be doing. 😉 Below I am sharing some board books that for one reason or another are considered classics in the literary world and they are, in my opinion, definitely worthy of multiple re-reading sessions.

“The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle- I think my toddler loves this book so much because he can relate to the need to eat everything he loves all at once like the little caterpillar and I think my baby girls favorite part is the fun shaped pages. Either way it is a definite winner!
“Mr Brown Can Moo, Can You?” by Dr. Seuss- No board book list for babies would be complete without an animal sound book and this one is our very favorite! Dr. Seuss’ rhyming and rhythm in this book is amazing and the sounds are so much fun to do.
“Guess How Much I Love You” Sam McBratney and Anita Jeram – This book is pure sweetness. It is a parent hare and a baby hare at bedtime expressing their love for each other with such iconic sayings as “I love you to the moon and back”. It is darling.
“Goodnight Moon” Margaret Wise Brown and Clement Hurd- As far as bedtime board books go, this one has definitely made its mark. With its simple text and repetition it creates a calming effect perfect for preparing for sleep.
“Dear Zoo” by Rod Campbell- Lift the flap books are always so much fun and this one is no exception. Children will enjoy lifting each flap to see which zoo animal is hiding behind it. There is also a newer Christmas version out now called “Dear Santa” which is a lot of fun as well.
“Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” by Bill Martin Jr., John Archambault and Lois Ehlert- My favorite part about this book is the rhythm the text creates. It is a blast to read aloud and is also great for introducing the alphabet at an early age.
“Are You My Mother” by Dr. Seuss- In this charming book a baby bird is on the hunt to find its mother. It questions animal after animal until in the end he finds her. This is one of Dr. Seuss’ books that is widely known among the youngest of readers.
“Jamberry” by Bruce Degen- This is one of our favorite books of all time. I even love it so much that I swear I will never tire of reading it to my children. The rhyming is perfection and the illustrations are darling. Definitely a win.
“We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” by Helen Oxenbury and Michael Rosen- This was one of my favorites when I was a child and it is so neat for me to see how beloved it still is. Definitely one I want my children to be familiar with as well and one I hope will be loved by their children’s generation as well.
“Goodnight Goodnight Construction Site” by Sherri Dusky Rinker and Tom Lichtenheld- There is construction equipment galore in this book, need I say more? Seriously though, perfect for all this tiny readers that are obsessed with everything on wheels.
“The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear” by Don and Audrey Wood- this is another one of our all-time favorites. The mouse in the illustrations will have your won-over with his likability and the fact that this book is written as if you were talking directly to him is a real win.
“The Napping House” by Don and Audrey Wood- This book is full of silliness that is sure to induce a giggle or two from your children. It is about a household of animals along with a grandmother and grandson who all start out asleep, but wake each other up one by one.
