Space is one of those subjects that you just never grow out of, am I right? Every time I look at a starry night sky I am filled with just as much wonder and awe as when I was a child and while I have learned a lot about the universe over the years, I still have probably just as many questions as ever. Below are over ten wonderful books that are incredibly informative and contain all kinds of information from the lunar landing to what stars are made of. They are sure to satisfy some of your curiosity and are great for a wide range of ages.

“When We Walked on the Moon: Discover the danger, disasters and triumphs of every moon mission” by David Long and Sam Kalda- This book outlines all the Apollo moon missions from the moon landing in 1969 to Apollo 13. The design is beautiful and it is packed with information!
Barefoot Books Solar System by Anne Jankeliowitch, Dr. Carie Cardamone, Annabelle Buxton and Lisa Robinsky- This beautiful and large book is packed with anything and everything that you ever wanted to know aobu the solar system!
In Focus: Space by Elizabeth Jenner- This stunning, nonfiction book is not only stuffed with information about space, but it features thick and sturdy pages that fold out into giant page spreads with amazing illustrations and design.
“When the Stars Come Out” by Nicola Edwards and Lucy Cartwright- This large format beauty is all about the world at nighttime. It isn’t about the solar system strictly speaking, but it does include a section at the beginning that talks about how nighttime works with how we orbit the sun and a section on the moon so I feel it’s a great book for this list. Most of it talks about “night life” and habits for both humans and different habitats. It’s so interesting!
“Voyage Through Space” by Katy Flint and Cornelia Li- This large format beauty features the planets of the solar system with one page spread for each planet. The illustrations are stunning and the information is fascinating. Plus, we love the poster that’s included and have it up in our home!
Space Maps: Your Tour of the Universe by Lara Albanese and Tommaso Vidus Rosin- This oversized book highlights space through the use of maps! It is the perfect way for every map loving child to explore and learn about space.
Moonshot: The Flight of Apollo 11 (Richard Jackson Books (Atheneum Hardcover)) by Brian Floca – A stunning and information-packed book that is a tribute to the flight of Apollo 11. Fascinating, comprehensive, informative and award winning.
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, I Know Exactly What You Are by Julia Kregenow, PhD and Carmen Saldana- I picture book written by someone with a PhD that explains what stars are made out of in a simple and easy to understand way for children? Yes, please! This one is neat.
National Geographic Little Kids First Big Book of Space (National Geographic Little Kids First Big Books) By Catherine D Hughes and David A. Aguilar- This book is thick and full of information about space. The text is geared towards younger children and helping to explain space in a way that they can understand. It’s very well done and we love it.
Planetarium: Welcome to the Museum by Raman Prinja and Chris Wormell- This is another thick and oversized book that tis packed with information about our solar system. The design is also stunning!
Board Books
Zoom Space Adventure by Susan Hayes and Susanna Rumiz- This little board book follows a group of astronauts as they blast off and head for the moon. There isn’t a lot of information or text, but the illustrations and cut out pages are wonderful!
“8 Little Planets” by Chris Ferrie and Lizzy Doyle- This board book is darling! The planets are personified and each one has such a cute little face. The best part though is that this book manages to share a couple pertinent facts about each planet with each page.
