I know that the age of 2 has a bit of a horrible reputation at times. (“Terrible Two’s” and all that.) But it is such a fun age in so many ways. In my experience, 2 year-olds have such an enthusiasm and energy for life and new discoveries that you can’t help but get excited along with them. This also makes for such fun taste in books and such fun story times. Our’s at this age are full of funny voice effects and singing and I can’t get enough. Check out a few of our favorite books for this age below.

“I Took The Moon For a Walk” by Carolyn Curtis and Alison Jay- This book is a favorite bedtime book in our home. It has a really serene tone when read and has the most gorgeous illustrations.
“Twinkle Twinkle ABC” by Barney Saltzberg and Fred Benaglia- An ABC book done to the lyrics of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”?! Yes please! It took me a few tries, but I have become quite proficient at singing along with this one. (At least proficient enough for my kiddos! haha)
“The Duckling Gets a Cookie” and “The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog” by Mo Willems- We love EVERYTHING Mo Willems, but these two are particular favorites at this age.
“Just Go To Bed!” by Mercer Mayer- My kids get the biggest kick out of Little Critter books and I think that this one rose to the top of their pile of favorites because they can totally relate to not wanting to go to bed and wanting to stay up and play later. A real gem.
“Five Little Monkeys Sitting in a Tree” by Eileen Christelow- When we read this one I sing it to the familiar nursery rhyme tune that the text is the lyrics too. I even throw in the hand actions for fun. My kids can’t get enough.
“Hedgehugs” by Steve Wilson and Lucy Tapper- We are major Hedgehugs fans and this book, along with the others, has been read a million times. I don’t mind because its so adorable!
“Puddle Pug” by Kim Norman and Keika Yamaguchi- This is possibly one of the cutest books about sharing ever created. It is about an eager pug who absolutely loves puddles and it is just too precious.
“Hickory Dickory Dock Nursery Rhymes” by Tiger Tales and Genine Delahaye- This is another book that I sing too. What can I say, they are nursery rhymes and my kids love it! Good thing they aren’t too picky about songs being on tune… I love that it’s a sturdy board book because it’s been read a TON.
“Mine!” by Jeff Mack- This short story is told with only one word “mine”. My kids get the biggest kick out of that. Because the story is so easy to follow and because there is just one word they love to “read” it aloud with me. We really put a lot of energy into our voice and have a lot of fun.
“The Big Honey Hunt” by Stan Berenstain- We are also big Bernstain Bear fans and this one is such a popular one at our house. The constant repetition of the text and Papa Bear’s determination add to it’s charm.
