I find it completely delightful that there is such an abundance of beautiful and wonderful Christmas books out there to choose from. And to add to my delight even more are published every year. Because of this, we may or may not have the issue of Christmas books overrunning our shelves every December, but I am not complaining. We read them all throughout the day every day the whole Holiday Season and are just as happy as can be. Below are some of our favorites form the thousands out there and each one is so special in it’s own way. Enjoy!

“Oliver Elephant” by Lou Peacock and Helen Stephens- This one is Christmas-y only in the setting and illustrations really, but it is such a sweet story and the classic feel of the illustrations is gorgeous.
“Santa Bruce” by Ryan T. Higgins- Somehow the world’s grumpiest bear ends-up not only participating in festive cheer, but playing the role of Santa himself. Such a humorous new Holiday favorite.
“Tough Cookie: A Christmas Story” by Edward Hemingway- This twist on the “you can’t catch me I’m the gingerbread man” story is so much fun and has a sweet message about being true to yourself.
“The Queen and the First Christmas Tree: Queen Charlotte’s Gift to England” by Nancy Churnin and Luisa Uribe- This is a fantastic Christmas, nonfiction book about how Christmas trees were popularized as a new staple in homes everywhere at Christmas. So interesting and beautifully illustrated.
“Cookisaurus Christmas” by Amy Fellner Dominy, Nate Evans and AG Ford- This book is hilarious! It’s a story told completely in talk-bubble format by a little, Christmas Dinosaur cookie who’s greatest wish is to make it on Santa’s cookie plate. So much fun!
“The Broken Ornament” by Tony DiTerlizzi- This is a story about a little boy who wants more and more and more for Christmas, but soon learns that more isn’t always better and the things that are most valuable aren’t always what you might initially think.
“Construction Site on Christmas Night” by Sherri Duskey Rinker and A.G. Ford- The Construction Site crew is hard at work, even on Christmas eve. So fun to see these beloved friends in a new, Holiday book.
“Mouse’s Christmas Gift” by Mindy Baker and Dow Phumiruk- This is a warm and cozy Christian book about a little church mouse who starts a chain of events that helps transform his community and bring Christmas Spirit simply by lighting a candle in the church window. So darling.
“Lots of Christmas Jokes for Kids” by Whee Winn- This paperback book is fantastic for children who have a love for giggles and silly jokes. There is everything from simple riddles to knock-knock jokes and is perfectly “cheesy”.
“A Sweet Christmas on Sesame Street”– This holiday book features your favorite Sesame Street characters along with scratch and sniff stickers for fun holiday scents! What’s not to love?!
“Last Stop on the Reindeer Express” by Maudie Powell-Tuck and Karl James Mountford- I am completely head-over-heels smitten with this one! The story is sentimental and heartwarming, the illustrations are stunning and the cut-out and flap details are special. A new favorite for sure!
“The Story Orchestra: The Nutcracker” by Jessica Courtney-Tickle- Each page spread in this gorgeous rendition of The Nutcracker features a selection of text that tells the story along with a button to push that plays a selection of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker! Such a stunning combination that is just spectacular!
Board Books
“All Aboard the Christmas Train” by Nichole Mara and Andrew Kolb- This search-and-find book has a fun format that pulls out accordion styles and lets you lift large flaps to look inside the train cars. Bunches and bunches of fun!
“The Night Before Christmas: A Light Up Book” by Clement Clarke Moore and Lindsay Dale-Scott- This board book simplifies the classic poem and adds darling illustrations. Plus, the last page spread has lights that light-up to create a “starry sky” effect!
“Little Christmas Tree” by Jessica Courtney-Tickle- I just adore Jessica’s work and this book is no exception. The texture she creates in her illustrations is stunning and the flaps throughout are so fun for little hands to lift and discover.
“All is Merry and Bright” by Jeffrey Burton and Don Clark- I am obsessed with this one! It is a larger board book with some heft to it and is stunning with its metallic/shiny illustrations on every page spread and endearing, yet simple, text. Magic!
“Christmas Cookie Day” by Tara Knudson and Pauline Siewert- This sentimental book features a mom and her child as they bake cookies for Christmas cookie day and share them with friends. It is charming and even has a cookie recipe to try on the back!
“Wake Up, Santa!” by Pintachan- This board book has the delightful feature of faces that “change” with each turn of the page. One that you must see in person and one that my kids think is magical!
“12 Days of Christmas” by Jill Howarth- Its the lyrics of the 12 days of christmas with the most darling, vintage style illustrations. So incredibly, unbelievable adorable.
“How to Catch Santa”by Jean Reagan and Lee Wildish- This fun hit is now available in board book format and my kids are loving it. We may have to give one of the suggestions a try…
