When I was young I was a huge fan of mermaids and unicorns. Then, when I was about ten years old, I fell in love with Dragons as well. In fact, I fell in love with them so hard that they took first place in my “favorites” at that time in my life. I still have a weakness for all things “dragon” to this day. Especially the ones of a magical and friendly variety! Below are some of our favorite books about these amazing, mythical creatures. They are wonderful enough to really make you wish that dragons were, in fact, real. And that they would want to be your friend.

“Rosie and Rasmus” by Serena Geddes- This is a sweet story of friendship between a little girl and a dragon who doesn’t yet have his wings. However, when they do come their friendship and love is tested as they learn that loving sometimes means letting go.
“Franklins Flying Bookshop” and “Franklin and Luna Go to the Moon” by Jen Campbell and Katie Harnett- I am obsessed with Franklin! He’s a book-loving dragon with a big heart and I can’t get enough. I’m hoping for a third book in this series!
“Dragon Was Terrible” by Kelly DiPucchio and Greg Pizzoli- This is a playful and humorous story about a dragon who is in a rut with making choices that aren’t the best. However, love can conquer all and a little friendship might be all this dragon needs to change.
“Dragons are Real!” by Holly Hatam- This darling board book is the cutest introduction to dragons, their characteristics and more. Plus, the cover is sparkly!
“Dough Knights and Dragons” by Dee Leone and George Ermos- In this story the dragon and knight are supposed to duel. However, they are both peace loving and would rather bake. A fun story that shows that there is often a better way and what we have in common is more powerful than our differences.
“Dragonology” by Dr. Ernest Drake, Dugald A. Steer, et al- This is a large format book with a beautiful format. It is a fiction book posing as a nonfiction reference book about dragons. There are even flaps to lift and other features to explore.
“Where’s The Dragon?” by Jason Hook , Richard Hook, et al.- I really love this book! There are dragons hidden on each page spread to find and the illustrations are wonderful. Plus, kids will get a kick out of seeing what the characters in the book miss.
“There Was an Old Dragon Who Swallowed a Knight” by Penny Parker Klostermann and Ben Mantle- This is a fun twist on the “there was an old lady who swallowed a fly” concept. My kids really enjoy this one!
“Dragons Love Tacos” and “Dragons Love Tacos 2” by Adam Rubin and Daniel Salmieri- There is a reason both of these books are so popular! They are hilarious, creative, and include pantloads of tacos!
“Hello, Knights!” by Joan Holub and Chris Dickason- This board book really packs a lot of fun into a small book. It has a large page spread at the end that you pull out and features some dragons who ultimately find a way to get along with the knights. So cute!
“Have You Seen my Dragon?” by Steve Light- We love Steve Light and this book is no exception! The illustrations are packed with lots of details and it is such a clever twist on counting books.
“There’s a Dragon in Your Book” by Tom Fletcher and Greg Abbott- This is an interactive story that my kids and I can’t get enough of. It is about a baby dragon that hatches right in your book and the mischief he causes.
