There is something so cozy and wholesome about farm books isn’t there? I mean, there has got to be a reason why farm books and farm children products are so popular right?! Maybe it’s the idea that they are full of so many fun animals, maybe it’s the fact that they produce yummy food, maybe it’s the thought of a picturesque red barn, or maybe its all the big equipment with wheels for little vehicle lovers? Or maybe it’s all of the above. I know for us it is! Tractor rides and apple picking is totally our jam and we love all things farm. Below are some of our favorite farm books which include fiction and nonfiction delights that are sure to please all the little farm fans out there. Enjoy!

Picture Books
“Sleep Tight Farm: A Farm Prepares for Winter” by Eugenie Doyle and Becca Stadtlander- This book is gorgeously illustrated and, I feel, quite informative on preparing a farm for winter. It is beautiful!
“Old MacDonald Had a Truck” by Steve Goetz and Eda Kaban- This one is a fun twist on the classic Old MacDonald Had a Farm Song, but features MacDonald and his wife fixing up an old pick up truck. It can still be sung to the same tune and is so much fun.
“Tractor Saves the Day” by Mandy Archer and Martha Lightfoot- This is a good look at what type of work tractors do and is one of my little guy’s favorites. I like the nonfiction aspects of it and think it’s well done.
“Apple Countdown” by Joan Holub and Jan Smith- This is a darling counting book where a class takes a field trip to an apple orchard. It is packed with farm fun goodness and is perfect for preschoolers.
“Big Red Barn” by Margaret Wise Brown- The illustrations in this book are lovely and the text is delightful. It is simple and sweet with a focus on the animals that live on a farm.
“Click, Clack, Moo, Cows that Type” by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin- This book is hilarious! It is about farm animals who type up letters to the farmer to request things like electric blankets. I loved this one as a kid and will never tire of it!
“The Little Red Hen” by Paul Galdone- What is a farm book list without this classic?! I love its strong message on the value of hard work and feel a kinship with the Little Red Hen. It’s a classic for a reason!
“Kiss the Cow” by Phyllis Root and Will Hillenbrand- This book is so cute! It is about a cow that likes a special song and a kiss before she shares her milk. Such a darling concept for such a fun book.
Board Books
“Finns Fun Trucks Farm Fleet” by Finn Coyle and Srimalie Bassani- This book is the perfect introduction to the different types of equipment that run a farm. There are big flaps/pages in it to lift and it is wonderful for vehicle lovers.
“My First Interactive Board Book: On the Farm” by Amandine Notaert- This interactive board book has super sturdy interactive features and is so clever. My little girl things it is pure magic and I swear I enjoy it just as much as she does!
“Barnyard Dance” by Sandra Boynton- Everything Sandra Boynton is wonderful and this book is no exception! It is a clever and witty book that can be sung like a country dance song. Very catch and did I mention very clever?!
“Life on Earth: Farm: With 100 Questions and 70 Lift-flaps!” by Heather Alexander and Andres Lozano- This book is packed with flaps to lift that reveal a ton of interesting facts about farms. It is sure to entertain for oodles of time and is a large-format board book that is extra tall and extra fantastic.
“Noisy Farm (My First Touch and Feel Sound Book)” by Tiger Tales- This touch-and-feel board book includes buttons to push so you can hear farm animal sounds! What isn’t to love for little, baby bookworms!
“Farmer Dale’s Red Pick Up Truck” by Lisa Wheeler and Ivan Bates- This cute story is about a farmer and his truck and how he picks up a bunch of new friends along his trip into town to help him out and how they turn around and help him in the end. A cute book with a nice message.
“Little Blue Truck” by Alice Schertle and Jill McElmurry- We are HUGE fans of all the Little Blue Truck books and this first one is a favorite! It introduces Little Blue who is a friendly and helpful little truck who makes friends wherever he goes with his kindness. Love him!
“Romeo Explores the Farm” by Alain Grée- These vintage illustrations are a particular love of mine and I cannot get enough of them. This book covers random facts about farms and is great for building farm vocabulary.
“Follow the Trail: Farm” by DK- This book isn’t a story, but is an interactive book where you follow a series of trials with your finger. It is great for keeping little farm bookworms busy and we really enjoy it when we are out and about.
“Eric Carle Around the Farm” by Mark Rader and Eric Carle- This book is full of animals and the sounds they make. You look at the picture then push the corresponding button and the sound is made. I’ve never met a baby/toddler who didn’t like animal sounds so this one is an obvious winner.
“Open the Barn Door” by Christopher Santoro- This one is a TINY book with sturdy flaps and it lived in my purse while both of my kids were babies to keep them entertained at random occasions. It was a life saver and is so cute to boot.
“Tractors (Rough and Tough)” by Fiona Boon- This was my sons first book about tractors and he was obsessed! It points out different parts of tractors/farm equipment from bumpers to smoke stacks and everything in-between. He ran his copy ragged until it fell apart.
“Tiny Farm” by Suzy Ultman- This is another tiny book that I started to carry around in my diaper bag to have on hand for times when I needed to occupy my little girl. The illustrations are some of the cutest around and there is so much to look at and talk about.
When I Grow Up (John Deere Sound Book) by Jack Redwing and Takako Fisher- This sounds book includes a tiny song about a child who wants to grow up to be a farmer and drive a tractor like their dad. So cute.
On the Farm (John Deere Explore & Find Book) by Jack Redwing and Alexandra Bye- This board book is a search and find book that is easy enough for toddlers and has the cutest farm illustrations.
