“What’s Up?” by Elisa Gehin, “This or That?” by Delphine Chedru, “Can You Keep a Straight Face?” by Elisa Gehin and paper engineering in all three by Bernard Duisit
As I have mentioned before, I am in total awe of all the incredible paperwork and paper engineering that is showing up all over in books right now. These three are three that, in my opinion, are up there with the best of them in ingenuity and wow factor. Each one contains some incredible work by Deuisit that is sure to delight all ages.
The text is very brief and simple in these books which makes them perfect for young readers as well as old and allows the paper engineering to really shine. Each page contains a flap, pull tab, or other such surprise that is at a whole new level of awesomeness. Watch as a bird “takes flight” or “lays an egg” with the simple pull of a tab.
It is so exciting when your simple actions will cause things to move and transform that you don’t expect at first glance of the illustration. Also, the range of movements that these books exhibit is incredible. There are paper pieces that twist, turn, slide, pop-up, and do pretty much anything imaginable. These are definitely some books to check out in person.
