“The world is full of so many incredible animals and plants. Join us on a fabulous journey to discover the different places where they live.”
A Journey Through Nature by John Haslam & Steve Parker
Do you have a lot of fun outdoor activities planned this summer? I always try to get my kids outside as much as possible when the weather is beautiful because they really need it after being cooped inside all winter. And lets face it, so do I! One great activity you could experience with your kiddos is to visit and observe as many different habitats around you as you can. You could even keep a science journal to record what you find. You’d be surprised at how many different habitats there are in your area. There is the city, forests, lakes, rivers, grasslands, cliffs, mountains, beaches and so many more. It could be fun to learn more about the area in which you live and to be “nature explorers”. I know my little guy loves observing wildlife whenever we go out.
This book would be an excellent book to introduce your kiddos to the idea, give them some background knowledge before they head out and just plain-old get them excited. It is a book that is delightfully illustrated that covers 19 different habitats including all of the ones I listed above. It features them in a two page spread with illustrations and text that point out some of the interesting animals and plants in that that live there. The bright and fun illustrations help keep them engaged. An extra bonus is that the jacket folds-out into a poster that depicts a few of the habitats with some animals. As I mentioned, the illustrations in this book are delightful, so the poster is definitely one to enjoy. This is a great book all around!
