BabyLit Board Books
When I first ran across BabyLit books I had two thoughts that hit me instantly and passionately: “Classics for my baby? Yes please!” and “The design of those is amazing!”. However, I was slightly confused. What were these little sturdy gems? How did they manage to pack an entire classic in a board book and make it comprehensible and interesting for babies?
Well, here’s the thing: they don’t. What they do is give a taste for the spirit of the book in primer fashion that is perfect for the littlest of bookworms. If you look at them moreas a beautiful introduction to the classics as opposed to a condensed classic, then you won’t be disappointed. In fact, you may find yourself enjoying them immensely.

How the format works is that each one of their books focuses on a different primer topic while highlighting different aspects of the book. For example, their “A Little Princess” Primer (by Jennifer and Alison Oliver) shows a different friend of Sarah’s from the book on each page accompanied with a quote about that friend from the origional book. That’s it. Simple and sweet. What makes it special is not just its connection to the classic, but the stunning, bright illustrations as well as the idea that friends come in all shapes and sizes.
Their “Les Miserables” book (by Jennifer and Alison Oliver) is a french primer where each page spread shows an object, place or character from the book accompanied by its french and english translation. It is also accompanied by a quote from the book. This format continues with their other books, such as “The Secret Garden” (by Jennifer and Alison Oliver) which is one of our personal favorites that highlights different flowers from the book with accompanying quotes.
Their simplicity of concept and text is why I would say they really do classify wonderfully as a book most suited for babies and especially young toddlers. However, that being said I think that I enjoy these books at least as much as my baby girl and am completely smitten with them. It also helps that they have a wide collection that even includes titles such as The Jungle Book, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and so many more. We will definitely be adding more BabyLit books to our collection soon.
