Reading books to my kids about love is one of my favorite ways to express love to them. They can be like extra long, extra fancy valentines. They are the kind of books that I want to read to my children over and over again. Plus, books that teach about love are important to me because I want to raise loving and kind children. I wish for them to feel loved, love others and even love themselves. The books below are excellent choices for books about love and I hope you enjoy them like we do.

“I Heart You” by Meg Fleming and Sarah Jane Wright- A darling book with charming watercolor illustrations that has simple text conveying the many ways that we say “I love you”.
“Next to You: A Book of Adorableness” by Lori Haskins Houran and Sydney Hanson- A baby seal and kittens are all so adorable, but as adorable as your little one? Never! Such a cute book full of adorablness sure to have kids smiling and feeling loved.
“That’s Me Loving You” by Amy Krauss Rosenthal and Teagan White- This book conveys the message that your little loved one is never alone. The rain, sunshine and beautiful sunsets can all be reminders to them of your unending love.
“Love Is” by Diane Adams and Claire Keane- Such a beautiful book with incredible illustrations! It brings home the message that love is sacrifice and service, acceptance and celebrating the good all told through the story of a little girl who loves and raises a baby goose.
“Love You Always” illustrated by Lucy Fleming- This is a bright and sparkly board books that is sure to catch your babies attention and is full of common “love rhymes” such as the classic “roses are red and violets are blue…”
“I’llLove You Always” by Mark Sperring and Alison Brown- This is a book that expresses many different ways to say the same loving message, that you will always love your little one. Another sweet book about love full to the brim with cute phrases.
“What Do You Love About You?” by Karen Lechelt- This is a sweet book that gets children thinking about what they love about themselves. It celebrates our unique characteristics and the things that make us special.
“Hand In Hand” by Rosemary Wells- This book celebrates the special bond between a mother and a baby or small toddler. It is incredibly sentimental and the illustrations are precious.
“Hug it Out” by Louis Thomas- The two siblings in this book are having a hard time getting along until their mother tells them that the new rule is that every time they argue they have to “hug it out”. In the end they learn that hugs really are wonderful things.
“All Kinds of Kisses” by Heather Swain and Steven Henry- There are all kinds of kisses from wet fish kisses to bear nuzzle kisses. This book celebrates them all and the way that kisses express love.
“The Moon Sees You and Me” by Caleb Brurroughs and Lisa Alderson- A lovely little board book with a padded cover for babies that talks about how the wind, rain and more are all ways they can be reminded that you love them.
“You and Me” by Susan Verde and Peter H. Reynolds- This is a sentimental and sweet story that celebrates the creation of special relationships. I love how sweet the simple story is and it is generic enough to make a great book/gift for friends as well as sweethearts.
“If Animals Said I Love You” by Ann Whitford Paul and David Walker- This sweet rhyming books explains adorable fictional ways that animals could say “I love you” to each other. For example a “whale would sing it and, from his spout, shoot some heart-shaped bubbles out.” Too adorable!
“No Hugs For Porcupine” by Zoe Waring- Porcupine really, REALLY wants a hug. However, all the animals in the forest find his sharp quills too much of a deterrent. Being hug-less makes him feel so sad and lonely and all seems lost until a new friend shows him a new solution. Everyone is happy in the end and Porcupine feels loved.
