We absolutely love holiday books over here, especially christmas books. They go great paired with a cup of hot coco, a cozy blanket, and a fire in the fireplace. Plus, Christmas books have a way of becoming an important part of traditions and there are several that are already becoming sentimental and essential in our family. Below is a list of Christmas Books that we are currently enjoing in our home this holiday season. I will be updating it over the next couple weeks as we discover new favorites so check back! We hope you find a few to add to your Christmas book collection and that they bring joy in your home as they do in ours.

“Little Blue Truck’s Christmas” by Alice Schertle and Jill McElmurry- Little Blue is back in this Holiday treasure and he is delivering Christmas trees to all his friends. Plus, the tree at the end of the book lights up!
“Bear Stays Up for Christmas” by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman- Bear’s woodland friends decide to spend Christmas in his cave so they can include him in their festivities and help him stay awake. Such a cute story about love and friendship.
“The Christmas Story” by Robert Sabuda- This is a picture book about the story of the birth of Christ and it has the most amazing pop-ups ever. A real show-stopper!
“Pip the Gnome and the Christmas Tree” by Admar Kwant- This board books is short and sweet and tells about how a little gnome and his woodland friends decorate their tree for Christmas. It is a great story about friendship and community contribution.
“The Night Before Christmas” by Barbara Reid and Clement C. Moore- The traditional “Night Before Christmas” poem with darling clay style illustrations featuring mice.
“Walk this World at Christmas Time” by Debbie Powell- One of my absolute favorites. A stunning books full of flaps to lift that explains how different cultures celebrate the holidays at this time of year.
“Mr. Dog’s Christmas at the Hollow Tree Inn” by Albert Bigelow Paine and Adam McCauley- A beautiful reprint of the story of Mr. Dog’s Christmas that was originally printed 1898 with fantastic illustrations and a gift worthy linen cover.
“Sugar White Snow and Evergreens” by Felicia Sanzaria Cherneskey and Susan Swan- A fun holiday take on a book about colors. I love how it explains a bit about how maple syrup is collected.
“The Day Santa Stopped Believeing in Harold” by Maureen Fergus and Cale Atkinson- It poses the question, what if Santa stopped believing in YOU by telling the story of a year that Santa questioned the existence of a little boy named Harold. Written with humor and such a fun spin.
“The Nutcracker” by Niroot Puttapipat- This retelling of the classic story has incredibly detailed and sophisticated illustrations. The real star however is an absolutely stunning pop-up spread at the end of the book. It is one you won’t forget!
“The Christmas Eve Tree” by Delia Huddy and Emily Sutton- The story of how a little christmas tree gets a second and third chance through a homeless boy and city worker that see its potential. Such a sweet book with such a sweet message.
“Rudy’s Windy Christmas” by Helen Baugh and Ben Mantle- The story of a Reindeer who can’t stop “fluffing”. My husband and little boy would be disappointed if I didn’t include it in this list. 😉
“The Twelve Hats of Christmas” by Brett O. Parson and Holly Parson Nielson- The story of a little elf who learns that it is better to give than to receive. The illustrations are fantastic and the story has wonderful rhyme.
“Dear Santa” by Rod Campbell- A delightful board book where you get to peek under the wrapping of various presents by lifting the flaps. My kids adore this one.
“A Homemade Together Christmas” by Maryann Cocca-Leffler- The story of a little family that decides to make each other homemade gifts for Chrsitmas. It is a sentimental story that teaches that gifts from the heart are always the best.
“Twelve Days of Christmas” by Britta Teckentrup- This book utilizes beautiful cut-outs to the song lyrics of the classic “Twelve Days of Christmas”. It is a masterpiece and another winner from Britta.
“Penguin’s Christmas Wish” by Salina Yoon- An adorable book about a little group of penguins that learns that gifts from the heart really are the best and that Christmas wishes do come true.
“Otto and the Secret Lights of Christmas” by Nora Surojegin and Pirkko-Liisa Surojegin and Jill Timbers- A whimsical tale about a dwarf named Otto who sets off on a journey to learn about Christmas and learns the “light” that friendship and kindness brings to the world along the way. So wonderful!
