Dogs in Cars by Felix Massie and Emmanuelle Walker
When I find a book that my husband is excited to read to our kids at bedtime, I know I have a real winner. He isn’t a book nerd by ANY stretch of the imagination, though he is such a fantastic dad and always willing to help out with bedtime stories. That is why it is so fun when I find one he that he will enjoy reading to them. Plus, it makes story time all that much better when the reader enjoys the book themselves, don’t you think?
This is a book simple enough for my toddler and is a fun twist on a counting book. Each page spread introduces a dog breed in a sequentially increasing number, but always with just one vehicle. (Which makes it silly for children to see more and more dogs piling into small vehicles.) What makes it so special, other than the bright and bold retro illustrations which are fantastic, is the humor this duo used in pairing up the dogs with different models of vehicles. The dogs seem to “match” the vehicle as well as the drivers. For example, the Poodles are paired with a Porche and the Rottweillers are in a Mercedes Benz. It is enough for any car enthusiast parent to get excited about while reading it to their child and enough for any dog and car loving child to be thrilled!
I have a feeling that this is one has many, many more re-reads in its future! “Dogs in Cars” is released November 8th, 2016 from Flying Eye Books.
