Moms are pretty special people. They are nurturers, caregivers, facilitators, guides, best friends, role models and so much more to the kiddos under their wings. The love that they give is famous for knowing no bounds and being completely and utter unconditional. This is the love that I feel for my children and I love to express it to them on a daily basis. One way that I love expressing this affection to them through books. And it may sound narcissistic, but sometimes those books are all about the relationships between mothers and their children. I love it. Books that feature mothers also make excellent gifts for Mother’s Day or other such occasions. They say so much more than cards often can and make excellent keepsake. Below are a few of our favorite books that celebrate mothers.

“Mom and Me, Me and Mom” by Miguel Tanco- This little gem features many of the day-to-day interactions and dimensions of a mother and child relationsihp. I also love it’s focus on all the ways children impact their mother’s in such wonderful and life-changing ways.
“Bloom: An Ode to Spring” by Deborah Diesen and Mary Lundquist – This book uses the analogy of a seed blooming to beautifully and adequately portray how the love and relationship between mother and child can develop and “bloom”. It is extra sweet and we love it.
“Hibernate With Me” by Benjamin Scheuer andJemima Williams- This is a beautiful book about belonging and emphasizes that a relationship between parent and child is one of safety, security and acceptance. It has such a warm and cozy feel and there is even a song to pair with it!
“That’s Me Loving You” by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Teagan White – This book is a love letter from moms to their children about how they always love and support their child even if they aren’t physically with them at the moment. It invites them to use daily things such as the sun warming their face to remind them that they are loved.
“The Strongest Mom” by Nicola Kent- Moms are truly strong individuals, but sometimes even moms need a little bit of help. This sweet book is on a mission to help children foster some empathy for their mothers and it is done in such a gentle and heart warming way.
“Mommies are Amazing” by Meredith Costain and Polona Lovsin- This one is about moms, but is full of the most darling cat illustrations on every single page.
“One Whole Bunch” by Mary Meyer and Sara Gillingham – This board book is a fun and modern twist on a counting book. Each page spread shows different flowers that the child is collecting and in the end we learn that they are all for their mother. So sweet and beautifully designed.
“Mama’s Belly” by Kate Hosford and Abigail Halpin- This gorgeously illustrated book features a family that is preparing to add another child to the mix. It shows not only the sweet relationship growing between them and their unborn baby, but the tender relationship of the mom and the older child as they prepare together.
“Mamasaurus” by Stephan Lomp- Because what kid doesn’t love moms and dinosaurs?! In this story baby dinosaur is describing his mother to other dinosaurs as he tries to find her. It is super adorable and playful and we can’t get enough.
“Why a Daughter Needs a Mom” by Gregory Lang and Susanna Leonard Hill- This book reads like a beautiful love letter full of advice and encouragement from a mother to her daughter. It is lovely and the illustrations are darling!
“Between Mom and Me: A Mother and Son Keepsake Journal” and “Love, Mom and Me: A Mother and Daughter Keepsake Journal” by Katie Clemons- Okay, so these aren’t picture books, but they are too good not to share. They are journals designed to be passed between mother and son, or mother and daughter and they are ingenious! Each page tells you who it is meant for and gives you a prompt on what to write. Perfect for strengthening relationships between mothers and children and I am SO excited to try these when my kids are older!
Just Between Us: Mother & Son: A No-Stress, No-Rules Journal (Mom and Son Journal, Kid Journal for Boys, Parent Child Bonding Activity) – This is another option of a journal that is passed between mother and son where both get to share their thoughts and feelings on various topics that come with prompts. Love these!
