Felt Cake Set with Books About Baking Cake
Obviously I have a bit of a passion for baking, especially cakes. In case you haven’t noticed cupcake recipes keep finding their way on this blog and it makes me so happy. Before I was simply baking goodies for my kiddos, but now my little guy is three years old and he doesn’t want to just eat my cupcakes. Sure, he still gets excited about them, but he is at an age where he really wants to help and be involved.
That makes it so much fun to occasionally invite him to join me in the baking process and I honestly enjoy this time together. I’m hoping they are bonding experiences that he remembers for years to come. However, I don’t always do my baking with him and it isn’t realistic for me to bake with him whenever he wants, which is where these books and this play set come in.
He was absolutely thrilled when Farm Fresh Felt Toys sent us this cake set for this post and he seriously keeps asking to play with it. So, in case you have little budding bakers of your own, below I’m sharing their wonderful felt cake set as well as four books all about baking cakes.
Pretend Play Felt Plush Birthday Cake Decorating Bake Set by Farm Fresh Felt Toys
Okay, so we have to start with the packaging of this cake set! It made me so giddily happy when it arrived packed in a small bakery box. I mean seriously, adorable right?! We are keeping the box and use it to store our cake set when it isn’t in use.
The goodies inside the box are everything you need for pretend play, cake baking senarios. Each item was made with quality felt and I could really tell it was created with care and attention to detail. The set includes: a grey felt dish, two felt chocolate cake layers, two felt frosting layers, a felt piping bag, a felt swirl of frosting complete with pom pom cherry, and a little container with rainbow felt sprinkles.
My toddlers favorite part by far was putting the sprinkles on top. He loved it so much that he would put them all on the cake, then stuff them back in the container to do it all over again. Really this came as no surprise seeing how much putting real sprinkles on real cupcakes really makes him happy. I think I may glue the top of the container though so that in the future the felt sprinkles aren’t lost. He can still shake them over the cake and pretend that the sprinkles that are painted on top of the frosting are the ones he put on. Besides, I can still let him use real sprinkles to put on his felt cake from time to time too. (I can be a cool mom like that at times!)

4 Great Books that Feature Making Cakes
This play set is perfect to pair with a picture book or two that is all about baking cakes. Especially picture books where the kids do the baking. Three of these books highlight children baking (the other is a truck) and are great for inspiring children to do some imaginative cake baking of their own.
“Julia, Child” by Kyo Maclear and Julie Morstad. In this book two friends who love baking create a cupcake recipe that reminds adults what the wonder of childhood is like.
“Baking with Dad” by Aurora Cacciapuoti. A little girl and her father bake a cake for a very special someone in this sweet book.
“The Mixed-Up Truck” by Stephen Savage. This little truck is supposed to be mixing cement, but he keeps getting confused and step-by-step ends up baking a cake instead.
“Froggy Bakes a Cake” by Jonathon London and Frank Remkiewicz. Froggy wants to bake a cake for his mom’s birthday. He may be lacking a bit in skills, but he definitely isn’t lacking in the desire to express his love for his mother.
