“No Such Thing” by Ella Bailey
Halloween is for pumpkins and candy and costumes and, most definitely, halloween books. This one has been on repeat at our house and it’s not hard to see why. It is beautiful and fun and not the least bit scary. It is about a little girl who notices that things start going awry in her home. Vases tip over, items are going missing, and it happens to be “that time of year”. You know, the end of October. But this little girl is not one to be fooled! She knows there is no such things as ghosts. In fact, she can come up with a logical explanation for every mysterious occurrence.
The real fun though, however, is that you as the reader know differently. On each page spread a careful eye can spot a ghost or two that she fails to see. Children will delight in “being in on the secret” and enjoy finding all the ghosts. The best part is at the end of the book you discover what the ghosts had been planning all along and why they needed to borrow a few things. I’ll let you discover what these cute little guys were up to when you check out the book.
The illustrations are also beautiful. The color palate that Ella chose is unique and so pleasing to look at. The illustrations have a sweet retro feel and include a lot of fun details that are thoughtful and fun to linger on. It is definitely one to add to your “Spooky Stack” of books for Halloween!

Ghost Hide-and-Seek Game with Free Printable!
In addition to the adorable story and illustrations, our favorite part of this book is spotting the ghosts on each page spread. This led me to think that this book would be perfect paired with a ghost hide-and-seek activity. That way you can hide a few delightful ghosts around your home for your kiddos to enjoy finding. I created a template for some ghosts that you can print and cut out if you’d like to save a tiny bit of time. After cutting them out all you have to do is hide them anywhere you’d like and take turns finding them. My kids had so much fun searching for their own ghosts in our home and I hope that your kids enjoy this activity as much as mine did.

Hi there! Thank you for the book review – my daughter and I checked it out from our local library and she loves it! We read it every day and then extended our check out time at our local library. When we went to return it she actually cried. Aww! 🙁
So I went online to buy a copy and I can’t seem to find one anywhere! Would you, by chance, be willing to sell yours? My daughter is turning 5 in a week and this book is literally the only thing she wants – figures she would pick a book that’s impossible to find! Haha. 🙂
I would pay for shipping, and you just name the price of the book! <3
Thanks! <3
