“The Helper Hare: An Easter Tradition” by Dzifa Glymin and Blueberry Illustrations
I am so excited to introduce you to the Helper Hare! It is a book and stuffed bunny combination set that comes with the most wonderful idea for an Easter tradition. To start, the book introduces The Helper Hare who is the adorable plush bunny that pairs with it. The story explains that, similar to how Santa has elves to help him make toys and keep tabs on kids for his “nice list”, the Easter Bunny has “helper hares” that help him make candies and toys to fill Easter baskets and report on the niceness of little boys and girls.
The story then goes on to explain that the Helper Hare that has been sent to you is there to observe the kind and helpful things that you do. Then at night he can go and report them to the Easter bunny. The instructions that come with him are that every day he will reappear in your home in a new place to observe. Your kids can play with him, but at night they must return him to the same place. Then while they are asleep he reports and returns to your home in a new location for the pattern to start again. It is mentioned in the book that your Helper Hare will usually come and visit 1-2 weeks before Easter each year.
I love the concept of this tradition! I love that it adds just that little bit of extra magic to the Easter Bunny story and lets your kids be involved in a new and creative way. I also love that it is a pretty simple tradition to implement. I don’t know about you, but holidays get pretty crazy over here for us. Reading a darling book, placing the bunny in our home and reminding our kids to try extra hard to be kind are all easily doable and enjoyable aspects to add to our Easter celebration. My favorite part about this tradition is the fact that it focuses on kindness. I believe that Easter, like Christmas (okay, and all year-round really), is a time to be reminded to be extra kind and loving to everyone. The fact that this is the focus of the tradition makes me so happy.
The two elements that make up the set are also fabulous. The bunny is super soft and incredibly adorable with his argyle vest and happy expression. I am very impressed with his quality. My littlest is already incredibly attached and she could hardly give him up for photos when I was taking them and impatiently waited nearby until I was done so she could carry him around again. The book is also fabulous. The illustrations are cute and playful and the text does a really good job at explaining the idea of “helper hares” (even mentioning that a “hare” is a bunny) as well as the tradition. Together they make a fun keepsake set to be cherished year after year.
