How This Book Was Made by Mac Barnett and Adam Rex
Have you ever wondered how a book is made? I mean, obviously there is an author who writes it and an illustrator who does the illustrations, but I mean beyond that? I have! And I’ll bet I’m not alone. This is a book that answers the question of how a book was made, in a creatively wonderful way. Mac Barnett has an excellent sense of humor which makes it an entertaining read.
This book is about itself, Mac, Adam and everyone else involved in the making of it. It all starts when Mac gets the idea for writing it in the middle of arm wrestling a tiger. That’s right, a tiger. Because how a book is made is already fascinating, but Mac decided to amp up the fun by adding a tiger and pirates. How does that happen you wonder? Well, on the book’s journey back from Malaysia (where it was printed) the boat got taken over by pirates who were shocked to find the cargo hold full of books instead of gold and jewels. Imagine their surprise!
These fictional elements along with the facts of how books are made play together wonderfully to make a book that is both informative and fun for kids. The illustrations are wonderful with bright and vivid colors and are perfect for mixing the down-to-business and playful feel of the book. This is definitely one worth checking out!
