“Mission Defrostable (Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast)”
There’s trouble in the refrigerator. BIG trouble! Things are getting extra frosty as the temperature’s plum it and they need a hero to warm things back up again before they all freeze. Of course Sir French Toast and Lady Pancake are the ones for the job and when they make an unlikely alliance they become unstoppable.
We absolutely love Sir French Toast and Lady Pancake and this book is no exception! It has plenty of “pun fun” and all the creativity that we have come to expect. Plus, the new adventure is just hilarious and a touch heartwarming at the same time. A definite winner and the perfect read aloud!

“Ice Cream Men” Snack
One of our favorite things about this book is all the silly food with all their silly expressions. Put a pair of eyes and a smile on a popsicle and you have the cutest little character ever right?! We decided to have some fun with this book by creating our own “beyond the book” frozen snack people. (Of course we wanted a cold snack, this is Mission Defrostable after all!) After some thinking on it we decided to go with ice cream sandwiches to create some Ice Cream Men.
I think that this activity works best as an open ended invitation where you supply kids with all the ingredients to make wonderful ice cream sandwich people and then let them make their own. For ours we used: ice cream sandwiches, marshmallows (for the mouth), candy eyes, whipped cream, sprinkles and cherries. We also used paper straws for the arms and legs because they were just so cute. However, if you want all the elements to be edible you could use Poky Sticks or pretzel sticks for the arms and legs. Some other ingredients you could use to create “ice cream people” are licorice, Tic-Tacs, skittles, frosting, blueberries and chocolate sauce. My kids had a blast making their very own, creative version of “ice cream men” and had equally as much fun eating them afterwards.
They were so much fun to make and we hope you love making your’s as well. If you give this Beyond the Book activity a try I’d love to hear how it goes! Share it on Instagram and tag me!
