Illustrated Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling and Jim Kay
I am a big Harry Potter fan, like HUGE! I fell in love with the first book when it first came out as I was a child and I waited anxiously for the sequel. I quickly devoured that one and waited anxiously for the next and the next. I was one of the Potter Fans in the crowds of midnight book releases at Barnes and Noble sporting plastic Harry glasses. I was one of the fans in line for hours for the first showing of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in the theaters. And of course I flew down to Universal Studios Orlando when they opened up Diagon Alley, the Hogwarts Express, and Hogsmeade to have myself a Butterbeer in the three broomsticks. This love runs deep for me, that is one of the reasons why these collector illustrated editions of Harry Potter are so exciting for me.
This is the second one released in the series and I already can’t wait for the next one. I mean, c’mon! Harry Potter with gorgeous illustrations to help the story come even more alive? What’s not to love? There are so many details in this edition that I love. The endpapers are fantastic, the illustrations are gorgeous (as mentioned) and even just the wide and thick size of the book is perfect. I also love how some of the illustrations are smaller details that are spread throughout the pages such as slugs crawling on pages.
However, I must give you a fair warning. There are a few illustrations that are a tad to scary for me. They involve small creepy crawlies with eight legs. Yup, you guessed it, SPIDERS! I hate those little guys, and Aragog is definitely NOT little! I just turn those pages really fast while squeezing my eyes shut! (haha)
