I’m the Happiest by Anna Shuttlewood
Do you ever accidentally get caught up in the comparison game? You know, where you notice with envy what others have that you don’t or find yourself wishing you were more like someone else for whatever reason? I find myself in the throes of that cycle from time to time. Every once in a while I need a reminder that all I need to do to be happy is to focus on my blessings and rejoice in my strengths as well as my quirks. I feel that self-confidence and self-love is something that often needs to be worked on, if only even just a little bit.
This is the story about a bunch of animals that are all caught up in the comparison game. Throughout the book they all compete with another by either stating they have the best unique qualities or trying as a group to be just like another animal. In the middle of all the chaos is the racoon who isn’t affected by all the envy and just keeps saying that he is happy as he is. Eventually all the other animals realize that the raccoons way is the way to go in order to be content.
I have mentioned before that I am a huge sucker for books on happiness and spreading joy, and here is another one. I just can’t help myself, besides, it is adorable. The illustrations are bright and colorful and it is a great book to open a discussion on self-acceptance with littles.
