“Kiss it Better” by Smriti Prasadam-Halls and Sarah Massini with Companion Activity
As a mommy I have many important jobs, and one of them is bestowing the “magical kiss”. I’ll be honest with you, one of my favorite parts of being a mom is kissing tiny owies all better. It makes me feel important, it makes me feel special, it helps me feel like I make a difference. I love how my little ones will leave so happy and content after a magical momma kiss, assured that everything is right in the world again. (Course, really it’s all fun and games until your toddler bites their tongue and comes over to you with it extended demanding a kiss! Haha! True story over here! Good thing a kiss on each cheek works in such circumstances. <wink wink>)
This new adorable book is one that celebrates magical momma kisses. It talks about the magical power of love and kisses and how a kiss can say so many different things. In it are mentioned nine different kinds of kisses from “Cheer-up” kisses to “I Love You So Much” kisses. It is such a sweet reminder that a little love can be such a comforting and strengthening influence. (Plus the illustrations are extra delightful with a soothing color palate.)

“Kiss it Better” Inspired Love Notes Activity
I thought the idea of teaching kiddos the many messages that a kiss can convey was so lovely that a printable and activity were in order. I combined the two “bedtime kisses” (“go to sleep kiss” and “sweet dreams kiss”) to make a total of eight printable hearts that include the messages that kisses can convey that are found in this book. You can print them, cut them out and attach chocolate kisses to them. These little love notes would be perfect to help children apply what they learned in the book about kisses.
One idea is that you could make a set of love notes with them and encourage them to look for opportunities to give them to family members when the occasion is appropriate. Wouldn’t it be great to see little chocolate kiss love notes appearing in your home when a little extra love is needed? Maybe a “sweet dreams” note placed on a siblings pillow before bedtime or a “see you soon” note placed on a sports bag. I also thought it would be a wonderful way to help teach children to be more emotionally aware of those around them and little bits of services they can render.
These notes could be used in other ways as well! What are your thoughts? Tell me in the comments below or if you give this Beyond the Book activity a try I’d love to hear how it goes!
