It’s no secret that I have fallen in love with book mail. How could I not?! Snail mail packages that arrive on your doorstep with books inside? Dream come true! I have been eyeing the Litjoy boxes and was so excited to finally give them a try. They looked like an absolute party. This is because not only do they contain a book (or two in the board book package) but they also come with goodies that fit the theme of your book! So neat right?! Here is the explanation on it from their website:
We spend weeks/months researching upcoming book releases in all age categories, speaking with multiple publishers, and personally reading each book we consider in order to choose the best titles for our boxes. Besides the book in each box, you can expect 2-4 bookish items to enhance the reading experience. We do our best to provide exclusive (and quality) items from small shops. In addition, each of our boxes will include a special note from us (Alix and Kelly) that is sure to brighten your day!
Can’t you just feel the book love? They put a lot of thought and care into their boxes and the and it really shows. We recieved the children’s picture book box that comes with one hard-cover, new release picture book and the 2-4 book themed objects. I waited with anticipation for our first blue box to show up on our doorstep and was so excited when one day it magically arrived. I’m telling you, its amazing! It was SO hard to wait for my little guy to be able to open it. Isn’t even just the color of the box fantastic!
He was so excited to see what was inside. (What can I say, my little bookworm has fallen in love with book mail too!) When I finally let him open it he dug through with such enthusiasm and really enjoyed pulling out each object and discovering what it was.
The theme this month for the picture book box was “Imagination” and the star of the box was, as it always is, the picture book. This month it was “What to Do With a Box” by Jane Yolen and Chris Sheban. It is a wonderful book that talks about all the different things a box can be and all that you can do with it. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous and it is a book that is not only fun to read, but can be a great springboard for your child in inspiring them to use their imagination and play with a cardboard box. One of the extra items this month was an additional book. However, it wasn’t a story book. It is a book that makes a perfect companion book to “What to Do With a Box” because it is a cardboard box activity manual that outlines the instructions for different things you can make with cardboard boxes. Everything from cars to robots. Isn’t that a perfect tool for extension activities from the picture book?! I have to say, I am very impressed.
(He was so excited he couldn’t even keep his hands off his box when I was trying to photograph it!)
In addition to the companion book there were three other curated items that came with this box. They were: craft supplies (including foam stickers, car control panel template for a cardboard box car, binocular kit and a crayon pen) a coupon for 20% off cottage door press publishing, and the parent gift which was a Mugging Packet by Shirly J (Which was amazing! I may have to order some more….) . I should also mention that each box comes with a tip card with ideas to enrich your reading experience with the book provided. Brilliant!
The craft supplies were so perfect to be right alongside The Cardboard Box Book. All we need is a cardboard box and a few other basic supplies and we can use our manual to make a cardboard box car and then use the crayon pen, template, and stickers to decorate! We are SO going to do it, it just looks like to much fun and my little guy is too excited. Until then, I have to tell you that alongside the picture book his favorite part of this box was most definitely, hands down, the binocular kit. These binoculars are so awesome! They even work well enough for children to get some kicks and giggles out of things being blown-up in size a bit! He couldn’t wait for me to help him make them and then he wouldn’t even let me have a turn because he didn’t want to let them go. It was true love.

This looks brilliant and I’m incredibly jealous! I just can’t justify the postage to the UK – it’s nearly as much as the box. There are a few UK-based boxes starting soon and I just hope they are as good as this one!
