I have seen book character inspired costumes floating around on Pinterest and the internet for awhile now and I love them all! Children love dressing like their favorite heroes and why shouldn’t fictional book characters be included? So, when I was presented with the opportunity to team-up with Harper Collins and Primary Clothing to create a book inspired costume of our own I was thrilled!
It didn’t take long for me to decide on Louise as our book character inspiration. We are big fans of Louise. She is creative, embraces her unique personality, is empathetic and kind to others (including her little brother) and loves with her whole heart. There are four books featuring Louse as the main character at present and they are the two picture books “Louise Loves Art”, “Louise and Andie: The Art of Friendship” as well as the two leveled reader books “Louise and The Class Pet” and “Louise Loves Bake Sales”. (All by the lovely Kelly Light)
Each story is positively darling and each one features Louise in her trademark outfit of a long tunic/dress that has navy blue and white stripes with a grey shirt over it. She also always wears black leggings, white high top sneakers and red rimmed glasses. To complete her look (and because she is an artist) she may even be seen with a number two pencil tucked on an ear or in hand.
I was so pleased to see that Primary Clothing carried all the exact pieces that we needed to create our own Louise Costume. We selected their long sleeved, stripe, twirly dress in navy as the base, put a classic tee in gray over it and finished it all off with black leggings. For the accent pieces we used these plastic, red glasses as well as these white high tops and a number 2 pencil.
I am beyond excited about the results! My little girl was so excited with them as well. We both think she looks darling and it is magical for her to dress-up as a loved book character. There are also so many other things to love about this costume. It’s comfortable, cute and works as an everyday outfit as well as a costume. (And I must mention that the skirt of the dress twirls and even has pockets!) Plus, we are big fans of the quality of each of the Primary clothing pieces. The fabric has a great stretch to it and is thick enough to feel substantial and like it will wear well. We are counting on getting a lot of use out of this outfit.
For your reference, here are the pieces that we used for the costume (with their links) again:
- Long Sleeved, Stripe, Twirly Dress in Navy (Primary Clothing)
- Classic Tee in Gray (Primary Clothing)
- Black Leggings (Primary Clothing)
- Red, Plastic Glasses
- White High Top Sneakers
- #2 pencil
We hope you enjoy this costume as much as we do and that it brings a little “Louise Book Character Magic” in your life as well. It really is a cinch to put together and is oodles of fun! This would be the perfect costume for Book Week celebrations at school, Halloween, or anytime you want simply want to be like Louise. (Because who wouldn’t, am I right?!)
