“Super Slug of Doom: A Super Happy Magic Forest Story” by Matty Long
The Super Happy Magic Forest is in jeopardy when Blossom the unicorn accidentally frees the Super Slug of Doom from his hidden prison. Once freed he heads out to claim the Potion of Power. Therefore it is up to her and her band of heroes to save the day. They follow his slimy trail of evil to the Potion and arrive just in time to save the day.
We LOVE this book at our house! We have read it for more story times than I can count and we get the biggest kick out of its wit and humor. It is packed with snarky talk bubbles and fun details in bright illustrations and we find it completely entertaining. Definitely one for your fun-loving readers and to add a little adventure and a little humor to your bookshelf. There is no other book quite like it.

“Potion of Power” Punch
My kids get the biggest kick out of the idea of a “potion of power” so of course we had to make our own! It obviously had to be green like it is in the illustrations (so we used limeade and green Hawaiin Punch) and it needed to be fizzy (so we used Sprite) because there is fizz in the illustrations and POP is the acronym. (Love that little detail!) We added some sherbet to make it a float just for the sheer fun of it and because the sherbet combined with the combination makes a lovely froth on top that gives it a nice “point ion-like” effect.
Originally we wanted lime sherbet because it is green and would go well with the limeade, but we went to store after store and couldn’t find any anywhere. (Is it gone? Does it even exist anymore?!) Therefore, we picked up rainbow sherbet. My kids were actually more excited about the rainbow colors because it was a bit more magical so it all worked out well in the end.
We tried different ratio combinations and my little taste-testers/helpers were so eager to participate. In the end we think we found a winning combination and were so pleased with the results. It was all I could do to keep them at bay when I photographed it and they were ready to pounce as soon as permission was granted. Needless to say it was a huge hit and large amounts were happily consumed.
Recipe:
- Green Hawaiian Punch (ours was the Strawberry Kiwi flavor)
- Sprite
- Limeade
*For every 1 cup of Hawaiin Punch we added 1/2 cup of Sprite and 1/4 cup of Limade. Simple as that!
*We also added a few scoops of rainbow sherbet to make it a yummy float.
