Spring is such a magical season. It seems to take forever to come and then it almost seems as if the whole transition takes place overnight. I often feel as if I’ve gone to bed to brown grass and snow patches and wake up to green grass and flowers. I love it! Below are some fantastic picture books that we love that celebrate this fabulous season and its stunning transformation. I plan on adding to this list as we discover new favorites so don’t forget to check in again!

“Abracadabra It’s Spring!” by Anne Sibley O’Brien and Susan Gal- This book is gorgeous! It has huge lift-the-flap pages that demonstrate the “magical” changes that Spring brings such as flowers blooming.
“When Spring Comes” by Kevin Henkes and Laura Dronzek- This cute book talks about and illustrates all the many signs of Spring. It includes everything from snow melting to seeds growing.
“The Tiny Seed” by Eric Carle- This book is a classic for a reason and such a fun one to share in the Spring to teach about seeds and plants.
“Spring for Sophie” by Yael Werber and Jen Hill- In this story a little girl uses her five senses to detect the signs of Spring. She waits patiently and observes until Spring finally comes.
“This Is the Nest That Robin Built” by Denise Fleming- This is one of those books where the text builds as you go. It is the perfect accompaniment to the story which is, quite simply, how robin builds her nest. It ends with the eggs hatching and the baby birds flying off.
“And Then It’s Spring” by Julie Fogliano and Erin E. Stead- This beautifully written and illustrated book starts with a world full of brown at the beginning of seeds and shows a little boy waiting for the “green” to come. Then, almost magically, at the end everything is green and Spring is here.
“Sammy In the Spring” by Anita Bijsterbosch-This book follows Sammy through a day of spring activities that includes riding his scooter, playing with baby animals and watering plants. Its darling.
“Little Blue Truck’s Springtime” by Alice Schertle and Jill McElmurry- Our favorite blue truck is back in this new release and this time he is accompanied by all his Sprintime friends and their little babies. Such a darling new favorite!
“Egg” by Kevin Henkes- This book is super simple in text and illustrations, but is completely precious in every way. It also doesn’t hurt that the illustrations are done in dreamy pastels.
“Up in the Garden, Down in the Dirt” by Kate Messner and Christopher Silas Neal- This nonfiction book is packed with all kinds of interesting facts about what happens above and below the dirt in gardens.
“Hedgehugs and the Hattiepillar” by Steve Wilson and Lucy Tapper- The Hedgehugs are long-time favorites in our home and this Springtime delight is no exception. In it they befriend a caterpillar who eats a lot, builds a cocoon and turns into a butterfly.
“Plant the Tiny Seed” by Christie Matheson- In this interactive book you get the pleasure of helping a tiny seed grow through clapping, tapping and other gestures. Such a fun way for tiny bookworms to learn about seeds!
“Baby Animals” by Stephanie Babin and Thierry Bedouet- This board book is perfect for young toddlers and features different baby animals. The illustrations are so cute and it has chunky pull-tabs that are so much fun.
