This Is Not A Cat! By David LaRochelle and Mike Wohnoutka
Mouse school is in session and a diligent teacher is trying her very best to teach her students what a cat is so that they can be aware of danger and protect themselves. However, she is having a rough go of it as her students are bored and uninterested. That is, until a real live cat shows up! Only, is it really a cat?
This is a book where things aren’t quite what they seem. Children will get a fun thrill out of watching the cat sneak up behind the teacher in the middle of the lesson as they are privileged enough as the readers to be aware of it before the mice. Then there is the added thrill of a unexpected ending where things aren’t quite as they seem and it is the readers turn to be surprised. This is such a perfectly playful book with large and adorable illustrations. The text is just a few words that are very repetitive to make the real fun in this book the cat and the surprises that I just mentioned. It is one that can easily turn into a repeat read in your home.
