“Through the Forest” by Steffie Broccoli and Catherine Bidet
I went through a phase where I absolutely loved choose your own adventure stories and I read through every single one that I could find at my city library. I loved that I was “in control” of the story and given choices. I was fascinated by the idea that there were multiple intertwining paths and of course I would read the book multiple times and choose different ways on purpose just to explore the unknown. Therefore, when I found out that Thames and Hudson published a choose your own adventure picture book I was ecstatic.
This book is gorgeously done and is a blast to read. The illustrations have a minimalistic and contemporary feel , but still offer bright colors and beautiful details. The story is really a walk through the woods with multiple observations and adventures along the way. Children will even learn some nonfiction facts about wildlife in forests. Really though, it is all about adventure. There are fun tabs not the ends of the pages to help you flip your way through your chosen path and a labeled map at the end of the book to give you a “big picture” of the path options in the forest. Seriously so much fun for little explorers.
