“Who What Where” by Olivier Tallec
Kids like to play detectives. It’s just so much fun to be the one to connect the dots and solve riddles. And you know what? It is also important for their cognitive development and when it is encased in a fun picture book like this one it is also good for their reading skills! Yup, this book is all about being a detective and solving riddles.
The long format makes it so when you open it up the top long illustration is some sort of scene or setting and the bottom illustration is a line-up of possible candidates for the whodunit puzzle stated. Children then get to observe the suspects and scene carefully to notice the tiny details that always point to the solution. It is quite a thrill for them when they find it out! These puzzles are hard enough that they took me, as an adult, a moment and can take children a bit longer. However, I don’t think they are so difficult that
many will go unsolved or be to frustrating. Give it a try and see if your up for the challenge!
